While Malkia will be facing Egypt, their male counterparts, the Wafalme Stars will be taking on Cameroon in one of the men’s semis
Malkia Strikers have advanced to the semifinals of the ongoing African Games after thumping the Gambia 3-0 (25-12,25-8,25-10) in the quarterfinals staged at the Methodist University Multipurpose Hall.
Consequently, the Kenyan girls who are bidding to retain their title will face off with their perennial rivals Egypt in the semis scheduled for Friday.
Malkia have been impressive in the tournament despite missing the experience of their skipper Mercy Moim and star hitter Sharon Chepchumba who was not included in the Games.
Before their game against The Gambia, Malkia had swept aside Algeria in straight sets, underlying their grit and hunger to retain the title.
What makes Malkia’s tie against Egypt a must-watch is the fact that Kenya suffered a 3-1 in the African Games qualifiers held in Cairo earlier in the year although the Kenyan side didn’t have their best players who were unavailable for the tournament on various grounds.
Tunisia will face Ghana in the other women's semi.
While Malkia will be facing Egypt, their male counterparts, the Wafalme Stars will be taking on Cameroon in one of the men’s semis.
The two Kenyan teams who enjoy significant backing from the leading gaming firm Mozzart Bet will take to the court on Friday seeking nothing but qualification to the finals slated for Saturday.
Wafalme secured passage to the last four on Wednesday after beating Burkina Faso 3-0 in the quarter-final and thus, set a date with Cameroon who humbled Chad 3-1.
The other semi will see Egypt lock horns with hosts Ghana.
The Egyptians wiped the floor with The Gambia 3-0 while Ghana were no match to Nigeria whom they floored 3-1.
